Wavular

Sharpie on paper. That's it. I don't want to get carried away with colors and canvases and specialty drawing tools. Stuff turns into more stuff, art gets overly stuffy, and nobody can relax. I want people to relax. To feel air, space, and comfort.

Keeping my drawings simple is one way to say, "Hey, you don't have to have a lot to be a lot." http://www.flavors.me/wavular

'Yellow Square' at Cafe Vita 2F in #Seattle

Yellowsquare

Seattle is where this style came into more definition. Maybe because we spent so much time in cafes.

People were on laptops a lot, and you didn't want to make a whole crazy painting and bug 'em, so you just whipped out a fast pen line drawing and voila

On to your latte you went.

It was an interesting experience being back in Raleigh for something artsy.

These four "scrolls" got a lot of attention for their shape. But also for their implication.

Questions from the 40 or so folks who trickled in...

  • What is your inspiration?
  • Really, you studied engineering?
  • What about the city seems like it doesn't interest you now? Isn't it just about the overcommunication that mutes the personalities of different places now that they're not exclusive in-person-only experiences?
  • Are you going to do this again?
  • Tell me about the zines.
  • Where is that? Tokyo? Oh, yeah. I knew it wasn't American architecture.
  • What did you do in Japan?
  • Sharpies, huh?
  • You dropped out of Pratt? A lot of people do that, I hear. It's expensive.

Missed it? Don't worry. I'm planning to bring it to Durham sometime soon.

You could almost call this an Edward Hopper. Preview pics for TOMORROW's opening #firstfriday #Ralegh

You know how Edward Hopper's always painting those scenes of light streaming through a window?

Seems like it's always the afternoon.

This pic reminds me a bit of that.

I love Hopper's work.

But my Sharpie drawings are the total opposite of his, I'd say.

ARCHITECTURE

Well, maybe not.

The subject matter is still inspired, largely, by architecture.

These are a few of the drawings you can see TOMORROW at the opening for:
