Wavular

Sharpie on paper. That's it. I don't want to get carried away with colors and canvases and specialty drawing tools. Stuff turns into more stuff, art gets overly stuffy, and nobody can relax. I want people to relax. To feel air, space, and comfort.

Keeping my drawings simple is one way to say, "Hey, you don't have to have a lot to be a lot." http://www.flavors.me/wavular

New style of portrait drawing, as opposed to the old pencil stuff.

I wanted to share this because I wrote about it over at:

I nearly made this into a postcard last year.

I like to send little 'hello' postcards to people, you know. The art of writing by hand, et cetera.

Sending postcard is something we've done almost every year since 2006 for Design Kompany. But last year we stopped.

Part of the reason is because, well, sending postcards didn't seem to be making much of an impact at all.

But more of the reason was that this design didn't really "fit" with DK.

I mean, I like it. But Akira was iffy, and hesitant. I can understand that. After all, I made it. And so, the thinking about what's "me" and what's "DK" began to become a really meaningful question.

Where does one entity end, and the other begin?

Has anyone else had to do this kind of thing? I feel like a Siamese twin.

Landscape of Wavular: a drawing in Sharpie by dk

Landscape3

I started making these simple line drawings with landscape features back in 2007.

We were working on a project over at Design Kompany for an architect, and he was so amazing because he encouraged a LOT of exploration. Especially these kinds of drawings.

I kept thinking about The Little Prince. And eventually, these evolved into the thicker, bigger Sharpie drawings you see in the section at left called 'Shows."

Tell me what you think!

Tron

Saw Tron in 3D.

There were some plot holes, sure.

But I liked it.

Wearing those glasses and hanging out at the IMAX at Marbles in Raleigh was too much fun.
